team history

Pleiades was founded in 1995 and has since been a team that brings together fun, driven and relentlessly supportive athletes for an experience that fosters leadership, commitment, development and friendship. The team first qualified for Nationals in 2002 and returned in 2019 for the third year in a row, with back-to-back regional championships in the Atlantic Coast. We are lucky to be coached by Jessi Jones, 2018 Coach of the Year. We are 23 athletes, seven sisters, one team.

I am so so thankful to have played my college career at UNC! I have never been on a team that is so unendingly supportive and positive on and off the field. We are a team that sets high goals, and every single person is incredibly dedicated to making themselves, and their teammates, the best that they can be in order to achieve them. Another reason that this team is so special to be a part of is the way that we are able to love each other and hype each other up CONSTANTLY! Whether that means a hug after a tough point, a goofy half time dance party, or even eating a raw onion just to get your teammates excited (its a long story...), this team does everything we can to make sure that we prioritize FUN in every situation. It's hard to put into words how important this team has been for me, but I can easily say that this was the best part of my college experience, and gave me some of my best friends in the world! ******* = <3 Forever

“Wow, this is what it will be like,” I thought after my first season of Pleiades, “I’m gonna get to grow up with these girls—I can’t wait!” True enough, Pleiades—across every class—eats together, studies together, works together and simply gets the opportunity to live life together. UNC Pleiades boasts some of the nation’s top womxn’s college talent…and also my BEST friends. Now family. Team culture insists and builds upon competitive grit and work ethic paired with wise, patient coaching and encouraging, smart teammates. College is an opportunity to grow into an extraordinary person who will attract other extraordinary people into your life. The only track to extraordinary womxnhood is through extraordinary character; you grow to be the average of the seven people who you spend the most time with. I will be honored to graduate Pleiades, and UNC, as the average of any seven of my beautiful and life-changing teammates.
